Ella Shap Museum's Granary was the site for this year's annual meeting of the CSJ membership. New board members elected Wednesday, August 22nd, were Peg Dietrich, Ann Holt, Steven Hug, Tony Krupa, Denise Krzescicki, and Antoinette La Cinski.Tommy Price, son of Robert and Heather Price, presented the results of the project he completed for CSJ, which resulted in the group acquiring a professional display board. Tommy's project was part of working towards his Eagle Scout status.
In an unexpected move the President's Award was given to the Middle School at Parkside. To prepare for the CSJ production of To Kill a Mockingbird in their auditorium, Jackson Public Schools refurbished the entire space to support the National Endownment for the Arts funded Big Read last March. Over 2,000 students were able to see this production. President Christine Gorton was asked to chose the recipient based on the greatest contribution made during the 2006 - 2007 season.
Past President Ann Holt was also honored with the Ted Wood Award. Michael Wood and his wife Susan were involved in selecting the winner of this award named for Michael's father. The first recipient of the award, Bill Insley, wrote that, "Community theatre in the Jackson area might never have endured without the dedicated efforts of Ted Wood, and he showed no partiality to any one players' group [Clark Lake Players or Jackson Civic Theatre] . . . He was a tireless worker. . . And his happy, friendly manner in the box office gave our patrons a warm feeling of welcome." The award was originally given by the Jackson Civic Theatre at Stone Village many years ago.
Steven Hug was chosen Rookie of the Year as the outstanding first year CSJ perfomer or crew member; Lucas Meyers won the Youth Award; Alexandria Flynn won the Techi Award; and Charles Minder won the coveted Hammy Award for appearing in EVERY show during the season.
CSJ reinstated awards this year through the efforts of lidija Fremeau, Membership Chairman.
