Center Stage Jackson Auditions for Cabaret

Cabernet Cabaret

A Broadway Revue Dinner
at the Sandhill Crane Vineyards

Jackson, MI - January 29, 2018

Center Stage Jackson is seeking singers for its 2018 Cabaret, titled Cabernet Cabaret and directed by Kelly Fandrey with accompaniment by Jon YuhaszPratt. Performances will take place April 20, 21, & 22, 2018 at the Sandhill Crane Vineyards (4724 Walz Rd. Jackson, MI 49201). This event will include a Broadway revue and three course meal.

Auditions will be held Monday February 26, 2018 and Tuesday February 27, 2018 at Jackson's First Presbyterian Church (743 W. Michigan Ave. Jackson, MI 49201). Auditions are drop-by style between 7:00pm and 9:00pm. This audition calls for singers age eighteen and older.

Auditioning singers should prepare two 16-bar cuts: One up-tempo and one ballad. These selections do not need to be Broadway tunes or songs intended for production, as the director would like to hear songs that showcase each singer's voice. The director may test for range.

An accompanist will be provided for those bringing sheet music. Alternatively, auditioning singers may bring a background track on CD or a device (a speaker with appropriate auxiliary cords will be provided).

Rehearsals will be held by appointment with the director and accompanist starting the week of March 12, 2018 until the week of production. This is a great opportunity for those that need a flexible schedule for rehearsal.

Contact: Kelly Fandrey at kellyfandrey@gmail.com or (517) 539-4118.

Croswell offers Tap Classes

Saturday morning tap classes offered at the Croswell
Dancer and choreographer Herb Wiley will offer tap dance classes on Saturday mornings at the Croswell Opera House beginning Jan. 20.

A class for beginners will take place from 10 to 10:45 a.m., and a class for experienced dancers will take place from 11 to 11:45 a.m. At least 10 sessions will be held, through March 24, but people do not have to attend every session.

The classes are intended for adults and for children ages 10 and up.

“When we renovated the Croswell last year and added new spaces, one of the things we wanted to do was start offering more educational opportunities,” said Jere Righter, the Croswell’s artistic director. “A lot of places in Adrian offer dance lessons for kids, but there aren’t many opportunities that include adults, so that’s a niche we thought we could fill. Herb is a great teacher, and I think everybody who comes to the class will have a lot of fun.”

Participants are asked to bring hard-soled shoes. Those who have tap shoes should bring them, but it is not required. Registration is not necessary. A donation of $10 per session is suggested.

For more information, call the Croswell at 517-264-7469.

If you go
  • What: Tap classes with Herb Wiley
  • When: 10 a.m. Saturdays for beginners and 11 a.m. Saturdays for dancers with experience
  • Where: Croswell Opera House, 129 E. Maumee St., Adrian.

Character List

Ugly: The ugly ducking and the main character of HONK! JR. Innocent, easily confused and very impressionable, Ugly doesn't understand why it is wrong being different.

Ducklings: Beaky, Fluff, Billy, Downy are Ugly's siblings - cute little kid types. They are among the "popular" ones in the duck yard who enjoy making Ugly feel left out. They sing as a group.

Ida: Ugly's mom. Ida is extremely protective of her son and committed to his safety. She is sweet but feisty, and she knows how to handle her husband, Drake.

Drake: Ida's husband. Drake is a sarcastic character. He is the stereotypical sitcom father - often shirking his parental duties.

Maureen: A moorhen and Ida's best friend. A gossip.

The Cat: The sly, cunning villain of the show.

Greylag: A somewhat pompous goose and washed-up British military type, Greylag tends to over glorify his mundane activities (i.e. migrating South) to the level of military operation status.

Dot: A motherly type, she is genuinely concerned with helping Ugly find his mother.

Barnacles Snowy, & Pinkfoot: The geese in Greylag's "squad."

The Bullfrog: A laidback, self confident frog.Optimistic and funny.

Penny: The young, beautiful swan that Ugly saves.

Father Swan, Mother Swan, & Berwick: Penny's family.

Grace: The most distinguished duck on the lake, the queen of the duck yard and a bit haughty.

The Turkey: The headmaster of the ducklings' school, and a bit snobbish.

Henrietta: A hen and another of Maureen's friends, a gossip.

Jay Bird/Maggie Pie: An investigative reporter. A very "in your face" bird, all she/he cares about is getting a good story.

The Farmer, Boy, and Girl: The only humans in the show.

Ensemble: The remaining actors play a number of different roles. Throughout the action of the play they take on roles as barn yard animals, geese, children at play, froglets, and part of the Blizzard scene.

Announcing Auditions for
Shrek the Musical

Monday March 27 & Tuesday March 28

Jackson, MI - March 2, 2017

Center Stage Jackson is excited to announce auditions for its Main Stage production of Shrek the Musical, directed by Bruce W. Crews with music direction by Michael Mason and choreography by Samantha Baldwin (Original Production Directed by Jason Moore and Rob Ashford).

Auditions will be held on two dates: Monday March 27th and Tuesday March 28th, both from 6:30pm-9:00pm at Jackson's First Presbyterian Church, 743 W. Michigan Avenue, Jackson, Michigan 49201. Parking and entrance are located at the rear of the church and will be clearly marked. Actors need only attend one audition, and are free to drop by any time within the audition window.

"Once upon a time, there was a little ogre named Shrek...." And thus begins the tale of an unlikely hero who finds himself on a life-changing journey alongside a wisecracking Donkey and a feisty princess who resists her rescue. Throw in a short-tempered bad guy, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand... and his name is Shrek.

Performances of Shrek the Musical will be held at Jackson College's Potter Center in the Baughman Theatre, 2111 Emmons Rd. Jackson, MI 49202. Friday and Saturday performances will begin at 7:30pm, with Sunday matinees beginning at 3:00pm

This is a Main Stage production that will include adults and children, ages seven and older.

Actors should prepare approximately one minute of music to sing, and bring either sheet music for an accompanist or a background track (an accompanist as well as a CD player with aux cord will be provided). Actors should also bring their calendar of obligations for April 10 through June 18, and wear comfortable clothing. Auditions will include the one minute vocal audition, cold readings from the script with other actors, and learning a short choreography routine.

Rehearsals will begin Monday April 10 and run Monday through Thursday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm. Not all actors will be called to every rehearsal.
